Video: Skydiver nearly hit by meteor

If you’re going to come within a few feet of a meteor, hopefully you’ll have the footage to prove it.

That’s what happened to Norwegian skydiver Anders Helstrup, who narrowly missed getting nailed by what appears to be a space rock during a flight in 2012.

The footage of the near collision was posted Thursday. It’s allegedly the first time a meteorite has been filmed flying within Earth’s atmosphere after its blazing tail has gone out. While Helstrup still isn’t convinced the falling object came from space, the experts contacted by NRK—Norway’s state TV channel—don’t have any doubts.

“It can’t be anything else. The shape is typical of meteorites—a fresh fracture surface on one side, while the other side is rounded,” geologist Hans Amundsen told NRK.

Helstrup told the Huffington Post that he hopes the footage will lead to someone finding the meteor.
