Video: Daredevils break BASE jump world record

Dubai’s Burj Khalifa is the tallest man-made structure on Earth. At 2,722 feet above the city, it stands nearly twice the height of the Empire State Building. The tower has long been a favorite destination for BASE jumpers. Though many have jumped from lower levels of the building, on Monday two French daredevils climbed all the way to the peak and soared into the record books.

Organized by Skydive Dubai, a special platform at the tip of the building was built specifically for the jump. Vince Reffet and Fred Fugen also underwent extensive training to ensure safety and prepare for all the jump would entail. After a year of leaping from buildings, helicopters, and Lauterbeunnen Mountain (which is the same height as the Burj Khalifa), the pair finally felt ready to make the attempt.

Resembling a scene from a superhero flick, the unbelievable plunge was recorded by Dubai Films. Check out the awesome video of Reffet and Fugen earning their place in the record books for the highest BASE jump from the tallest building.
