Progress at Great Shiplock Park

July 15, 2013 3:47pm

GSPmapWell, it might be four months late, but work has begun on the half million dollar renovation of Great Shiplock Park. The James River Park parcel will soon also be a swank trailhead for the Richmond end of the Virginia Capital Trail. I took the dogs there today for a walk (and to Chapel Island across the canal) and to check out the progress. Here are some pics.

Ramps now take you over the canal between GSP and Chapel Island.

About Andy Thompson

I was the Outdoors Columnist at the Times-Dispatch from 2007 to 2013, writing twice a week about mountain biking, fishing, hunting, paddling and much more. I live a 1/4 mile from the James River, close enough to see bald eagles soaring over my house on their way to find a meal. Pretty cool, eh?
